Virtual Interior Design: Case Study.

As an interior designer, there are few things as rewarding as transforming a space and bringing a client's vision to life. Recently, I had the opportunity to work on an exciting project that involved refreshing an entrance hall. The challenge was to create a light and airy space with a touch of Scandinavian minimalism, a style known for its simplicity, functionality, and timeless elegance. In this blog post, I'll take you through the journey of this inspiring project and the thoughtful design choices that resulted in a stunning and serene entrance hallway.

Step 1: Embracing the Scandinavian Colour Palette

To achieve the desired light and airy feel, the first step was to choose a carefully curated colour palette. We opted for a classic Scandinavian palette featuring soft, neutral tones such as whites, creams, light greys, and warm beige hues. These colours not only create a sense of spaciousness but also allow natural light to bounce around the hallway, making it feel even brighter and more inviting.

We decided to go bold and paint the tired looking bannister using Farrow & Ball Railings - we think it looks pretty amazing!

Step 2: Decluttering and Space Optimisation

A key aspect of Scandinavian minimalism is the emphasis on decluttering and simplifying the space. We meticulously assessed the client's belongings, identifying what was essential and what could be edited out. By doing so, we created more room to showcase the hallway's true beauty while maintaining its functionality.

Step 3: Bringing in Natural Elements

Scandinavian design is deeply rooted in a connection with nature. To infuse this natural essence into the hallway, we introduced elements like large focal plants, dried greenery in vases, and organic textures such as cotton and jute rugs. These touches not only added depth to the space but also provided a harmonious contrast against the clean, minimalist backdrop.

Step 4: Creating Texture with Thoughtful Lighting

Lighting played a crucial role in achieving the desired atmosphere. To enhance the brightness and warmth of the space, we installed a combination of ambient and accent lighting. Two stylish pendant lights graced the ceiling, casting a soft glow throughout the hallway. Wall-mounted sconces on the stairwell and a strategically placed table lamp and candle on the chest of drawers added an element of cosiness during the evening hours.

Step 6: Showcasing Art and Decor

To add a personal touch and inject character into the hallway, we collaborated with the client to select meaningful artwork and decor. Thoughtfully curated pieces, adorn the walls, creating focal points and sparking intrigue. Minimalist frames with black matting complemented the artworks and seamlessly blend with the overall design.

We thoroughly enjoyed this project and we love the after pictures supplied by our lovely client!
